ORIGINS OF MEDITATION

Meditation began in ancient times as a ritualistic and spiritual practice. Through the evidence of cave paintings and archaeological finds it is believed to date back over 15,000 years, stemming from early civilizations. Approximately 5,000 years ago, Indian scriptures described actual meditation techniques; and approximately 2,500 years ago, through Hindu philosophy and the formation of Buddhism in India, meditation began to be formalized. The art of meditation has adapted very well into Western civilizations over the years. It experienced a growth surge during the 1960s, and its popularity is continuing to flourish, bringing people peace, well-being and clarity of mind.

BENEFITS OF MEDITATION

Meditation works on many levels: by contributing to our physical and mental well-being, by enhancing the immune system and by reducing the effects of stress. Meditation provides a deeper spiritual connection for many people and can have a significant effect on their personal growth and development. One important benefit of meditation is improved concentration, which is why many athletes and sports professionals practice it. There have been a number of studies conducted that concluded there is a direct correlation between concentration exercises such as meditation and significant increases in athletic performance.

TIPS FOR MEDITATION

While meditation is essentially a simple practice, there are a number of things you can do to enhance the experience. Follow these tips and you will greatly improve your health and well-being. Remember that meditation gets easier with each session. The key element to your success is proper breathing. We all have our energy that surrounds us called prana, which is a sanskrit term for life-force energy. All living things absorb prana through the sun, earth and the Divine. Focus on deeply breathing in your prana and releasing any bad energies from within. Doing this balances, strengthens and cleanses your auras and allows for greater psychic awareness. So find yourself a comfortable place and enjoy the peace in meditation.

MANTRAS

MantrasThe word “mantra” is a combination of two Sanskrit root words: “man” meaning the mind and “tra” meaning instrument or tool. Therefore, mantras are instruments (tools) of the mind, sounds, or vibrations (with or without specific meanings) that enable you to attain a deep state of meditation and consciousness, either alone or during a religious ritual. Mantras are central to the practices of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism, giving people access to the divine and to personal and spiritual transformation. “Om” (or “Aum”) is the most basic mantra sound vibration and is believed to be the sound of the universe.

MEDITATION USING A MANDALA

mandalaThe word “mandala” is the Sanskrit word meaning “circle”. It has also been translated as “the center”. The mandala has been associated with many cultures, including Hinduism, Buddhism and Native America Indians. Most mandalas are represented in a concentric design, and any square or geometric shapes within them stem from a circular center point, for example, in Buddhism, a Buddha is encircled in the center. Mandalas are usually very colorful and those colors represent different meanings, emotions and transformations. Mandalas are used in meditation as a focal point, just as a mantra (a personal sound or word to quiet the mind). They are beautiful, symbolic visual aids representing wholeness and harmony with the universe.

MEDITATION FOR CHAKRA ALIGNMENT

Meditation allows you to clear your mind and focus on your goals. It is important to continually practice meditating. Once you recognize that you have a keen intuition, you will want to fine-tune it. Psychic development is simply to take your intuitive abilities to the next level. Clearing your mind of unwanted thoughts and focusing on what your intuition is telling you is the key to opening the door to answers. The best meditation for this is a chakra alignment meditation, which focuses on the body?s seven major chakras. Please visit Psychic Library’ Chakra Room to view the interactive chart and descriptions before beginning the meditation. This will give you a better understanding of its visualizations.

MEDITATION TO FIND YOUR SPIRIT GUIDE

meditationspiritguideMeditation is one of the most common ways to contact and connect with your spirit guide. Continually meditating will help reveal their name and identity. When meditating to contact your guide, try asking precise questions. If you do not receive answers immediately, keep trying. It can take several years to achieve this. Here is a suggested meditation that you can use to contact and communicate with your spirit guides. It can also be done before doing a psychic reading or healing work.

MEDITATION TO FIND YOUR ANIMAL TOTEMS

Finding your animal totem is an exercise in relaxation, patience and endurance. For many people, an animal totem meditation can produce results very easily. However, for others it is a difficult process that may take multiple sessions. Before you begin this exercise, take a look at what you may already know about animals that have surrounded you. Ask the following questions: What animals have you encountered in your life? Which animals have you been attracted since childhood? Are there any animals that cause you fear?
