HOW TO DEVELOP PSYCHIC ABILITIES

INTUITION: THE FIRST STEP

Intuition is part of the sixth sense. It is an awareness of a fact or reality that is not related to any usual reasoning power or logical assumption. It is an insight about events that may or may not take place. It surpasses logic and is more than an educated guess. Intuition is your internal communication system and is on call at any moment. Everyone possesses the natural ability of intuition; however, some individuals are able to develop it further than others.

Intuition is acquired through past experiences, current events and natural subconscious instincts. Somehow, all of this information is bundled and stored within us, often referred to as having a “gut feeling.” Think of your intuition as an internal guide that you may choose to listen to, or in some cases, share with others.

PSYCHIC EMPATH

The Webster’s New World dictionary defines empathy as: feeling, intellectual or emotional identification with another. The term psychic empath, derived from empathy, is being used more frequently in the psychic and paranormal realm, and it refers to a psychic individual who is so intensely sensitive to other people’s emotions, pains and energies that they experience them as their own. They can probe deeply into another person’s soul and identify and experience feelings that may have been blocked for some time or unknown reason. Like other psychic abilities, one may be born with it and it is often multi-generational. However, many people can acquire this after a near-death experience. It is also believed that everyone is born with some type of psychic powers, however much of this is still open to debate.

PSYCHIC PROTECTION

On your journey toward psychic development, it is important to understand and practice the technique of psychic protection, or psychic shielding. Whether or not you are psychic, you can use these methods to protect yourself from harboring another person’s negative emotions, either from the physical or spirit worlds.

Your mind and body are great receivers. Sensitivity to stimuli around you triggers gut feelings on an emotional level. Although you cannot avoid all of your emotional responses, you can protect yourself from many of the unwanted ones. These negative feelings may not have come from within you; they may have come from an outside source.

CLAIRAUDIENCE

Clairaudience, which means clear hearing, is the ability to perceive sounds or words from outside sources in the spirit world. Psychics who are clairaudient hear voices, sounds or music that are not audible to the normal ear. They receive these messages mentally or within their ears. Most often, psychics have this ability in tandem with clairvoyance.

As with clairvoyance, many people have this ability without consciously realizing it. It is similar to that of someone repeating prior conversations or phrases from the past within his own mind. In some cases, the conversations are actually audible in their physical ears.

CLAIRSENTIENCE

Clairsentience, which means clear sensing, is the ability to feel the present, past or future physical and emotional states of others, without the use of the normal five senses. Psychics who are clairsentient are able to retrieve information from houses, public buildings and outside areas. It is also one of the abilities used in aura sensing and psychometry.

Many people have this ability without consciously realizing it. They are the individuals who talk about getting a gut feeling, good or bad, when looking to purchase a home or just entering a building. They might pass an internal judgment of an individual when they meet.

CLAIRVOYANCE

The term clairvoyance, or clear seeing, originated from the French words clair (clear) and voir (to see). It is the ability to see events from the future, present and past within the mind’s eye. Clairvoyance differs from telepathy, which is one of several other psychic powers. Telepathy is a conscious, direct sending of information from one individual to another, without the use of the five senses. Clairvoyance is the knowledge of past, present or future events that is gained without direct conscious thought.

PSYCHOMETRY

Psychometry is also known as psychometrics or token-object reading. The term psychometry is derived from the Greek words “psyche” meaning soul and “metron” meaning measure. It was named for the science invented by American physician and professor of physiology, Joseph Rhodes Buchanan in the 1840s. During a psychometry reading, a psychic is able to pick up impressions, visions, thoughts or events relating to someone just by holding an object, piece of jewelry, photograph or letter belonging to that person.

TELEPATHY

Telepathy, a form of extrasensory perception (ESP), is the direct communication between two living beings on a level that is void of written or verbal communication or the use of the five senses. One is considered the “sender” or “transmitter”, and the other is the “receiver”. Telepathy is not limited to humans. It occurs between animals and between humans and animals.

The term telepathy was coined in 1882, by Fredric W. H. Myers, one of the founders of the Society for Psychical Research. The science of parapsychology, which is the study of psi, divides telepathy into three different types.

EXTRASENSORY PERCEPTION

Extrasensory perception (ESP), also known as cryptesthesia and the sixth sense, is the ability to acquire information without the use of the five physical senses. Many people believe that everyone is born with one form or another of ESP. For some people it is more developed than others. Often, by the age of four or five years old, logic and reason start to take a stronger hold on the mind and these abilities are weakened or lost. However, there are those who do continue to develop their ESP, especially those individuals who are born into a family where psychic abilities are multi-generational and/or nurtured and encouraged.

PRECOGNITION

PrecognitionPrecognition is the ability to actually perceive or see a future event through extrasensory perception (ESP) or clairvoyance, before it happens. The term is derived from the Latin pr., meaning “prior to” and cognitio, meaning “to learn.” Precognition is often confused with the terms premonition or prophecy, which only relate to a feeling of or sensing that something will happen in the future.

Precognitive events usually appear to individuals as a flash or spontaneous vision, when, in an awakened state, a person receives a short intense mental scenario. One example of this would be that of a mother who is driving in her car and sees a vision of her child injured at a playground. She quickly turns the car around to find her child about to fall from a tall tree. Another example would be of a person who is about to board an airplane and has a vision of a crash that is so intense that he decides not to board the plane. He finds out later that there was in fact a plane crash.

GEMSTONES FOR PSYCHIC ABILITIES

psychicgemstonesPsychic abilities and psychic protection can be developed and enhanced by the use of crystals and gemstones. They, like all elements, contain energetic properties. Their powerful energies have the ability to heal our bodies and heighten our spiritual lives by correcting unbalanced vibrations in the body. Listed below are some of the more common crystals and gemstones used by psychics and those who want to achieve a higher consciousness and thereby open up communication with the spiritual realm. Other gems or crystals can be used in conjunction with those on the following list or you may find some of your own choosing that work just as effectively for you in these areas.

LEARN HOW TO COMMUNICATE
WITH ANIMALS AND PETS

As with any type of telepathic communication, quieting your mind is important. Begin by observing the animal and try to visualize the thoughts that come into your mind. Remember that you need to disregard any imagined thoughts. Animals will communicate using images, motions and short visual stories. You will need to do the same when using your mind to communicate with them.

It is best if you start the communication with your own pet. To do this, lie quietly next to your pet. If it is a dog, start thinking about the leash you use to walk him. Focus on the leash as if you were getting ready to grab it to go for a walk. Keep transmitting that image in your mind. After some time, watch and see if the dog becomes excited, as if he knew he was going to be taken out. You may also want to try this exercise thinking about your pet’s favorite toy. He just might bring the toy to you for some play time. This is a good test to see if the dog is picking up your telepathic message. Be patient, this may take several tries.

PARANORMAL PHENOMENA

EARTHBOUND SPIRITS

earthboundspiritAn earthbound spirit is a deceased person’s soul whose energy lingers in the physical world and has not yet crossed over into the spiritual realm. Many reasons have been hypothesized about why these souls do not cross over. Films and television programs tend to popularize the belief that entities who stick around on the physical plane are there to wreak havoc on loved ones, people who have purchased property in which they inhabited or those who have disturbed their resting places. Some of these are fictional accounts and do not represent the whole story.

SPIRIT CLEANSING YOUR HOME

smudgestickHave you ever felt as if you were not alone anymore in your house? Are you experiencing paranormal activities? Have personal possessions been moved around or disappearing and reappearing? Do your electronics seem to have a mind of their own, turning on and off without your assistance? Are there extremely hot or cold spots within your living space? Has the comfort level of being alone in your house dropped to a level of fear? Do you hear tapping, knocking or footsteps? Are your pets acting strange or skittish? Do you feel that you might be losing your mind? Most likely you have not lost it, but you just might be living with and experiencing the antics and shenanigans of an unwelcome spirit or entity.

PHYSICAL MEDIUMSHIP

ectoplasmPhysical mediumship is quite different from mental mediumship. A physical medium, while in a trance state, produces physical evidence of connections with the spirit world to observers in a dimly lit room, during a s’ance, or psychic circle, through the following phenomena: transfiguration, direct voice, apports, levitation and the movement or throwing of objects, knocking, rapping and tapping, spirit lights and materialization. A mental medium, or as more commonly referred to, a psychic medium, connects with the spirit world by harnessing visions, images, messages and energies from the spirits and then in turn, relaying them to the person who is receiving the reading.

PSYCHOMANTEUM

ghostinmirrorA psychomanteum is a small, dark chamber used to facilitate communication with a particular departed soul. Its origin stems from an ancient Greek ritual for contacting those in the spirit realm. At that time, individuals were led through an underground maze to a dimly lit place so they would be away from outside stimuli. In that area was a cauldron or bowl filled with water or oil. The person would gaze directly into the cauldron, look at and focus on his own reflection in the hope that the spirit would appear.

TYPES OF HAUNTINGS

ghosthauntingA haunting is paranormal phenomena of either the appearance of a spirit or supernatural being, or the replay of an action or event that took place at a specific location in the past. Four common types of hauntings are residual, intelligent, poltergeist and demonic. As yet, there are no scientific explanations for hauntings; however, parapsychologists continue to look for answers.

D’j’ vu

dejavuD’j’ vu is a French term meaning “already seen.” It was given its name by Emile Boirac (1851-1917), a French psychic researcher in his book L’Avenir des Sciences Psychiques (translated as The Future of Psychic Sciences). Webster’s Dictionary defines d’j’ vu as “the illusion of remembering scenes and events when experienced for the first time or a feeling that one has seen or heard something before.”

PARAPSYCHOLOGY

Parapsychology is a branch of psychology that studies psi experiences (paranormal events). There are two major fields of study: 1. psi-gamma, which refers to the ability to acquire information through nonsensory or nonphysical methods (telepathyclairvoyance and precognition) and 2. psi-kappa, which refers to the ability to affect or move physical objects through nonphysical methods (telekinesis and psychic healing). Its purpose is to understand the processes or causation of these events. The studies of psi phenomena are done under well-controlled conditions, in order to remove doubt and provide valid conclusions.

UNDERSTANDING SPIRITUALITY

Spirituality is a philosophy and personalized system of principles and beliefs. It is universal, yet is customizable. The American Academy of Family Physicians states, spirituality is the way you find meaning, hope, comfort and inner peace in your life. Many people find spirituality through religion. Some find it through music, art or a connection with nature. Others find it in their values and principles.

Spirituality has evolved from all the ancient religions, cults and practices. It represents an interfaith appeal, with its emphasis on an individual’s spiritual growth. A difference does exist between spirituality and religion. Religion focuses on an organized set of written beliefs, stories, guidelines and rituals and is practiced by a group of people. Religion requires participation in a certain set of rules, for example, praying at specific times of the day, celebrating specific holidays or worshiping only the God of that religion.

WICCA

Wicca is a neo-pagan religion that evolved from pre-Christian traditions in Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The discovery of cave paintings from more than 30,000 years ago points to the idea that Wicca is actually much older. The religion is based on an awe-inspiring appreciation of Nature and that the spirits of the One, Goddess and God exist in all things; nature’s creatures, trees, flowers and oceans. Everything on Earth is divine.

Many forms and branches of Wicca exist, but Gerald Brousseau Gardner is most often credited as its founder. In the early 1950s he claimed that he was a part of an ancient witches coven in Southern England and his writings about witchcraft became the cornerstone for the development of Wicca throughout the world. Contrary to what has been popular belief, Wicca has nothing to do with Satanism or evil.
